Happy New Year! This year I want to adventure into some regional dishes, so if you have one for me to try, let me know! It’s gotta be better than this first one (What was I thinking?). Is this chili or meat soup? You decide. Should you choose to try this recipe, do so at your own risk. While my husband liked it and even ate it all, I was NOT a fan… at all. While the flavors were strange, they weren’t awful, but the meat was very overcooked and dry. It was just not a texture and flavor I would ever want again.

Cincinnati Skyline Chili
Ingredients:
5 cups water
6 oz can of Tomato paste
1/2 oz baking chocolate (unsweetened – I use Baker’s brand)
1/4 cup chili powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes, or less, depending on your desired heat level
1/8 tsp black pepper
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 1/4 lb lean ground beef
Directions:
Add the water to a large pot with tomato paste and chocolate. Cook over medium heat for about 3 minutes or until the paste is fully dissolved.
Add in your spices and apple cider vinegar.
Crumble the raw ground beef into the pot into small pieces.
Bring to a boil then turn the heat down to simmer for 1-1/2 hours or until the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally.
Serve over thin spaghetti or a hot dog.
