Did I accidentally grow a Jalapeno x Habanero hybrid?

This year I planted a jalapeno plant and a habanero plant next to each other, but in two separate pots on my patio. Today I noticed a third plant with peppers that look jalapeno-shaped but tiny and habanero colored. Did I accidentally wind up with a hybrid?

First image shows me holding the third plant. Jalapeno is on left, habanero is on right.

Second image shows the peppers which I just harvested. From left to right: jalapeno, habanero, mystery pepper.

Lol I think you just left it to ripen. Jalapeños will turn orange or red

If you let fruit drop and rot, it’s possible that they crossed. Crosses are so tough to see, because you must plant the seeds and get fruit. That said, chinense and annum will not be likely to cross…

Peppers don’t cross like that. If you cross a habanero and a jalapeño you would need to polite them with the pollen from the other plant. The fruit will be whatever play it was already but the seeds will be the cross. Grow those and you could end up with a cross but even then some seeds might show it and some might not

I had too many starts this year and basically shoved plants into whatever, wherever I could. I had some stunted Orange Spice Jalapenos that looked very similar to this.

Looks like a habanero de arbol. One of my favorite peppers

  6. Looks like its settled. Not a jalapanero or habapeno.

…How many candles did you light, and what kind of chalk was used to draw the runes?
